Making room for others.

I think they are still calling our age the “Age of Information” but ironically, tongue in cheek it could be called the “Age of Mass Information”. Like, how many times do I need to be invited to have a new MasterCard? SurprisedI  suppose by now, if I had responded to each opportunity I could have well over a hundred of them. The spam phone calls and emails hit everyone enough times to wear out even a lonely person. And so, sometimes, when the phone rings, my first mental reaction is “not again”! But … maybe it’s not a telemarketer, but a friend...

One of the busiest friends I have is pictured here, yet four of us found the time to spend an afternoon together on beautiful Georgian Bay, and we are richer for it.

And one of my newest friends is in the community on a work exchange project. He took time to worship with God’s people, instead of just “tourist-ing” around and so we met. We are both the richer for it. But it took effort to plan a time for a walk through the Wye Marsh, and feed the chickadees. And even though the time will come when he returns to his home, that will not erase the fellowship.

Here we are, approaching Christmas. People think they are too busy, and perhaps they are. But it’s over festive times, ministry opportunities, shopping for those we love, etc. Let’s remember that one of the enduring statements about the birth of Jesus was that there was “no room at the inn”, and let’s make room for others; your life and theirs will be richer for it.
