Sometimes I like to take a road trip.
So we pick a spot on the map, and plan the trip around the sights that interest us. If we were coming to Midland, maybe we’d like to see the Wye Marsh, or do a downtown walk and see the Murals. Why did people move to this particular place?
What was the purpose behind this community? Midland can trace its roots back to and beyond the Jesuit missionaries who came here for the purpose of reaching the Aboriginal Peoples with the gospel of Jesus.
What about our lives? We’re on a journey of sorts, from the womb to the tomb. What are the landmarks we don’t want to miss? What is the purpose behind life?
For generations this question has been important. It was formulated into the Westminister Shorter Catechism, which summarized biblical instruction.

Q. 1. What is the chief end of man? A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God,[1] and to enjoy him forever.[2]

Our individual purpose can be found in the larger purpose; God created you to know and enjoy Him in an ever-deepening way, with the natural result of responding in personal adoration.
You can begin that relationship with God through the person of Jesus Christ.
