Through Calvary Baptist Church you can link into significant community ministries:

  • Assisting the "Gift of Grace" soup kitchen with food items.

 Knox Presybterian Church operates the "Gift of Grace" soup kitchen, several churches partner to provide volunteers and food to assist.

  • Assisting the "Food Bank" with non-perishible food items.

The Salvation Army and the St. Vincent de Paul Society operate food banks in the community; we channel our non-perishible food items through the Salvation Army.

  • Assisting the "LIFT" organization with non-perishible food items and toiletry items.

LIFT (Life Skills For Teens) is a community outreach to Teens in Midland, sponsored by Kinark, and assisted by Calvary Baptist Church. 

  • At Calvary Baptist Church, you can get involved with "Provision" on Friday afternoons (Bible Study), Men's Club (Supper and Bible Study monthly),  Youth Group (Thursdays bi-weekly), Bible Study Monday and Wednesday evenings, Choir (Thursdays weekly), Soup Fellowship (Tuesdays weekly).
  • We are also glad to offer our facilities for the March of Dimes Acquired Brain Injury Support Network; Girl Guides Sparks and Brownies; Children's Aid Society Family Group Decision Making; Kinark Summer Children's Project; Full Deck Bridge Club; Power and Sail Squadron (Midland) Bridge; Serenata Community Choir; Georgian Singers Community Choir.

Calvary Baptist Church, Midland, desires to find a qualified worker to help build children’s ministries (includes children aged 5-12) within the church as well as leadership to maintain them.

 

 

Expectations and duties

A paid CE worker will:

- Have an average work requirement of 20 hours per week

- Be the Junior church leader

- Design a children’s ministry

- Outreach to get children and families involved with CBC

- Organize getting children to camp (one week in the summer)

- Organize and lead a short term DVBS program in the summer

- Be responsible directly to Pastor Cliff and to the CE committee

- Attend CE meetings as a staff member without a vote, but whose input would not only be expected, but appreciated and considered.

- Show loyalty to CBC

- Assist with Youth Group activities when they do not interfere with normal children’s activities

- Have a working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy and the Accessibilities Standards, Policies, & Practices for Customer Service,

 

Possible future expectations and goals

- Facilitating an age group split within the children’s ministry

- Training of new children’s workers/teachers

- Organizing children’s plays

- Encouraging more participation in worship from the children

- Increasing the position to full time

 

Hiring

- Executive council will be the interviewing and hiring body

- Hiring for a fixed period, with quarterly reviews by Executive Council

- Academic qualifications

- Related experience

- Explanation of the applicants spiritual walk with Christ

- References

- Current police check

 

Qualifications

- Post secondary education in areas such as Bible, Christian Education, Children’s studies, Education, or Family and Children’s studies would be preferred.

- Practical experience and effectiveness in children’s ministry in camp, churches, or other relevant contexts.

- Leadership experience especially in transferring vision to action

 

The ideal candidate will have a mature Christian faith and commitment to serve in the local church, excellent relational skills with people of all ages; energy, resourcefulness and creativity; previous experience developing and implementing children’s ministry programs. A theological and/or teaching background would be an asset.
